They say time flies when you’re having fun but seriously – how the bloody hell is it September? Despite being my busiest month at work it is one of my favourite months – there’s something about it which just sparks new beginnings…. The countdown to autumn begins with the lust over bright crisp cold mornings, chunky knits and cosy nights in.
Now, before I get carried away and mention the 25th December I thought it would be nice to reflect on the summer of 2017 as there were some pretty exciting happenings…
1. Buying our very own first home
I guess I should mention this first as it’s a pretty big deal right? Matt and I finally became home owners and I couldn’t be happier. It was all a rather stressful (and not to mention expensive) time but it was 100% worth it and I feel incredibly lucky to be a homeowner. I absolutely love the area we now call home and the interior designer in me is having way too much fun! We’ve decorated the kitchen and living room so far (lots more to do) but I’m loving the fact that we can finally put our own stamp on a house and not worry about losing a deposit… Homeware purchases have definitely exceeded all others these past few months!
2. Ride 100
In and amongst buying a house and moving, Matt managed to find the time to train and participate in Prudential Ride 100 cycling 100 miles to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. He absolutely smashed it (including his phone which had a rather unfortunate accident) but he completed it in 4 hours 45 minutes and the #teamwhittle support team were ready on the mall to cheer him across the finish line.
3. The one where Phoebe and Sarah went to Friends Fest
Friends Fest came to Sheffield and having missed out on tickets last year I made sure to snap up a ticket this time. It was an interesting experience having pretty much been made for social media. Staff were on hand to help you get the perfect boomerang and take photos galore! It was great to see the set, props, visit ‘Central Perk’ and of course sing along to the famous theme tune.
4. The World Athletics
Now this was super cool! Matt and I were lucky enough to gain tickets for two sessions on the same day for the World Athletics in London. Having never been to the Olympic Park I was already excited and it definitely did not disappoint. We had fantastic seats and the atmosphere was amazing. We saw a whole host of events including the women’s 200m final, women’s 3000m steeplechase final, long jump, hurdles, triple jump, high jump, decathlon and so much more! I well and truly got the athletics buzz this summer.
5. A trip to the seaside…
As you might have seen in my latest blog post I spent a few days down in Brighton for a girly holiday with my friends Becky & Phoebe. After a stressful few weeks it was the perfect get away, exploring the lanes, strolling along the seafront and enjoying lots of yummy food and drink. You can see more photos and read more about what we got up to here.
What are your favourite moments from the summer?
