Cycle Trans Pennine – Challenge Cancer

flags

In my last blog post I shared with you my experience of working as an Events Assistant for Cancer Research UK. The major events season typically runs May – July however when the opportunity came up to work at a cycling event –  how could I say no?

The Cycle Trans Pennine event was an organised bike ride which saw cyclists of all abilities and ages either cycling Manchester to Leeds, Leeds to Manchester or there and back. The event was organised by Action Challenge and saw participants taking part all in the aid of raising as much money as possible for the various cancer support charities involved including Cancer Research UK, We are Macmillan Cancer Support, Breast Cancer Now and Prostate Cancer UK.

The event included food and welfare stops along the way with meals at halfway and finish, medical and mechanical support and my personal favourite – a medal and glass of champagne at the finish.

I was based at Temple Newsam where the event began for those starting in Leeds and my role involved welcoming participants, cheering them on, answering any questions and of course giving out the much needed freebies such as gels for those who were cycling on behalf of Cancer Research.

It was fantastic to see so many people cycling and it’s definitely inspired me to look at what challenges I can set myself next summer….

Did you take part? I’d love to hear what you thought!

It was also lovely being reunited with this one! Thanks Rachel 🙂
